What is
frame relay?
Frame relay is a direct, permanent connection that is used to provide
your site with Internet access. It is a tariffed, guaranteed service
that is monitored 24 hours a day. Frame relay technology requires
that two new copper pairs be provisioned between your nearest Telco
(e.g., Qwest) central office and your site. Special equipment at
the customer’s premises allows very high speeds with high reliability
and availability.
Important differences between Frame and DSL

time on a frame circuit can be measured in minutes per year

How fast
is frame relay?
Frame relay is available in a range of speeds, also called “bandwidth”:
56 Kbps,
128 Kbps, 256 Kbps, 512 Kbps, 768 Kbps, and full T1 (1.54 Mbps).

What will
you need?
Some specialized hardware is needed for frame relay service. You’ll
need an Ethernet-based network (most business computers connected
to a network will already have a network card, along with a router
and CSU/DSU.) Our specialists can help you decide on the type and
brand of hardware that will best suit your needs, and we can program
the hardware, if necessary, for an additional hourly fee. There
is no charge for basic router programming.
